    Side by side

The two robots racing above, A then B.

    Add a third robot

Put a second robot in the race as B, or add one here, to see two side by side.

An illustration from 621 named reviewers' results, not a lab test. Names and buy buttons usually open Amazon, which pays us a commission. How this works

    All robots

Every robot we compare: the general picks first, then the full list to sort and narrow. Race as A or B puts a robot in the race above.

    How we score

Overall is the average of the six stats the simulator plays, counting only stats scored by two or more reviewers, with at least three of them. A score from one reviewer shows in a robot's Details, drawn apart, and stays out of the overall score, our picks and the Pets filter.

A need narrows the list by the rule it shows once pressed. Sorting by a score puts the highest first, ties to the score more reviewers stand behind, then the lower price; a robot with too few reviews of that score goes last.

Each price is the one read at the store named beside it, on the day its Details give. An illustration driven by review results, not a lab test: how this works.

Names usually open Amazon, which pays us a commission that never changes a pick; a price shown may be the maker's.

?no mop, a mop that comes off, or one that lifts 12 mm or more

?a mop that lifts or comes off before a rug

    General picks under your budget

Other options by need, from review scores.

    How the picks are chosen

One robot per need, ranked by review scores across homes, so they can differ from Best for your home, which ranks by how each cleans yours. Reviews read on October 20, 2026.

A pick rests only on stats scored by two or more reviewers, is on sale today, and each robot is picked once. Each need has its rule:

    • Best overall. The highest average over the six stats the simulator plays, counting only stats scored by two or more reviewers, with at least three of them; it is chosen first.
    • Best under $200. Under $200 at its US price, then the same average as best overall.
    • Best for pets. Pet hair scored 7 or more by two or more reviewers and a dock that empties the bin, then the highest pet hair score.
    • Best for pets under $500. The same as best for pets, under $500.
    • Best on rugs and carpet. No mop, a mop that comes off, or one that lifts 12 mm or more, so it keeps a medium-pile rug dry, and carpet scored 8 or more by two or more reviewers; then the highest carpet score. With none, no robot is picked.
    • Best on carpet under $700. The same as best on rugs and carpet, under $700.
    • Best mopper. A mop that lifts, comes off or rolls, then the highest mopping score scored by two or more reviewers.
    • Fits under low sofas. Clears a 9 cm sofa gap with 5 mm to spare, by its maker or a reviewer's measurement, then the same average as best overall.

Ties go to the score more reviewers stand behind, then to the lower price. A robot with no US price today, or out of stock, is not picked. Every score is Nameryn's own, from named reviewers' results; a robot's Details names them and links each review.

    Before you buy

    How this works

Race robot vacuums through the same 3D home. Maker specs set where each can reach; reviewers' results set how much it cleans. Times and percentages are simulated.

    What this is

An illustration of each robot in your kind of home

A game-like way to compare robot vacuums before you buy one. Every robot covers the same drawn home by the same rules: its maker's specs decide what it can reach (under the sofa, over the bathroom threshold, how long its battery lasts) and what reviewers measured decides how much dust, hair and stains it picks up. An unstated height or climb is assumed to fit and marked unverified: check before buying. It covers 53 robots and 621 reviewer results, 471 of them with the review's own date.

Times and percentages are simulated, and floor reached, dust, hair and stains are separate outcomes. One floor tile is 25 cm; the robot is 35 cm across and never passes closer to a wall or a leg than its body allows, and sofas, beds, tables and armchairs stand on legs it steers or bumps around. The robot and dock are generic drawings, not the model's hardware. New mess scatters a fresh layout of dust, socks, cords and stains and starts the run over; Use my home builds your own rooms, floors, rugs, pets and gaps. Use it to see how two robots differ in the same home, then open a robot's profile under Find your robot for the specs and the reviews behind each score.

    How we score

From named reviewers' results to a 1 to 10, and the rules every run follows

Each score is Nameryn's own, 1 to 10: the rounded average of what each named reviewer measured for that stat. A lab's percentage or count is scored against that lab's own average on the same test: the average result scores 5.5, a perfect one 10 and nothing 0, so an average robot lands in the middle (Vacuum Wars carpet 80.7% (160 robots); Vacuum Wars pet hair 79.4% (128 robots); TechGearLab pet hair 54.2% (23 robots); Vacuum Wars obstacles 17 of 24; Vacuum Chef obstacles 66%). Any other percentage counts as tenths (80% is 8), a star or point score is scaled to 10, and a reviewer who gives only a verdict counts by its word on a fixed ladder: outstanding, excellent, fantastic, superb 9; great, very good 8; good, solid 7; decent, reasonable, fine 6; adequate, okay, average, mixed 5; mediocre, disappointing 4; poor, weak 3; bad 2; terrible 1.

    1. Every robot starts at the same dock in the same home and covers it room by room. One that maps (lidar, a 3D time-of-flight sensor or a camera) plans rows around the furniture on its map; one with a gyroscope works rows without a map and bumps into what it meets; one that bounces at random drives straight until it bumps, turns away at a random angle or follows the wall for a while, and goes on until its battery runs low. A robot whose navigation nobody states plays rows without a map, and its floor reached is marked unverified. The mess layout number places the socks, cords and stains; the same number gives the same run.
    2. The maker's specs decide what it can do, else a reviewer's measurement. It goes under a sofa, bed, table or armchair only with 5 mm to spare, and never closer to a wall or a furniture leg than its round 35 cm body allows. A threshold higher than its climb keeps it out of the bathroom. An unstated height or climb is assumed to fit and marked unverified: check before buying. When its battery cannot finish the next stretch and get home, it docks to charge and picks up where it stopped, unless its maker or a reviewer says it cannot. The battery runs on the maker's run time, else a reviewer's measured one, else the middle of the run times makers state, 150 min, and it drains while the robot is stuck.
    3. Tested scores decide how well. Each pass over a square picks up the hard-floor, carpet or edge score in tenths of its dust (a 9 lifts 90%), never more than 95%, and a corner takes the edge score twice. Hair on carpet and rugs goes by the pet hair score, which reviewers test on carpet; hair on a hard floor lifts like dust, by the hard-floor score. Hair winds only round a brush roll, and cuts its pickup by up to a fifth over a run, unless its maker builds it against tangles and no reviewer saw hair wrap it. Stains go by the mopping score, and a dock that washes the mop calls the robot back every 15 square metres mopped, unless its maker says the roller mop rinses itself as it mops. Navigation decides how many squares it misses. A robot with a camera or 3D light sensor steers around a sock or cord as often as its obstacle score says; one that runs over a sock swallows it, and a cord wraps its brush, half the time, until someone frees it. A robot that feels its way can wedge among chair legs; one that reviewers rate 7 or more on obstacles does only where a reviewer or owners say it does. Help needed and things steered round are averaged over four messes.
    4. A stat no reviewer tested plays as an average robot would, 5.5 on the scale. Suction never enters a run: the reviewers' pickup tests already show what it achieves.
    5. A race runs two robots in the same home with the same mess layout number, so every difference comes from their specs and scores. The comparison leads with dust and hair left behind, places reached, help needed and evidence gaps for this home. Simulated time is shown and is not a reason to pick one. A missing height, climb, run time or navigation type is called unverified, and the lines resting on it are not compared. The small apartment has one open room, a kitchenette and a bathroom; the house with a dog adds a second bedroom, three dog toys on the floor and hair shed along the sofa, round the dog bed, down the hall, by the water bowl and at the foot of a bed.
    6. A fixed mop pad wets a rug it crosses unless the robot avoids carpet, and it can run vacuum-only; a mop that lifts keeps a rug dry only when it lifts more than the rug's pile (low 6 mm, medium 12 mm, thick 20 mm, set in Home settings); a mop that comes off keeps rugs dry. The result card rounds every figure: minutes to the nearest five, shares to the nearest five per cent.

Who measured what, recalls and owner reports

Open a robot's Details to see dated reviews, maker information, recalls and repeated owner complaints.

Who the reviewers are, and how many results each gave

Each reviewer is marked by how it tests: lab publishes measured numbers from repeatable tests, hands-on is an editor using the robot at home, and a video tester counts only when the video shows a measured result. Recalls come from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall data; an owner report needs three separate owners, each in their own public thread, and Amazon reviews never count.

Specs and prices come from each maker's US product, support and spec pages, linked in each robot's profile; Amazon listings were read on amazon.com.

    How winners are chosen

The highest review score on each measure, and how many reviewers back it

No robot leads on everything, and several are still thin on reviews. On the results we could read, these score highest on each stat:

    • Hard floors: Roborock Q7 M5+ (3 reviewers), eufy 11S MAX (one reviewer), Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 (4 reviewers), MOVA P70 Pro Ultra (one reviewer), eufy Omni C28 (3 reviewers), DEEBOT T90S PRO OMNI (2 reviewers), Shark PowerDetect NeverTouch Pro (2 reviewers), iRobot Roomba Plus 505X Combo (one reviewer), Roborock Saros 10R (3 reviewers), Shark ThermaCharged (one reviewer), Roborock Saros 20 (3 reviewers) and Roborock S5 Max (2 reviewers), 9 out of 10.
    • Carpet: Roborock Q10 S5+ (2 reviewers), Narwal Freo 20 Edge (one reviewer), DEEBOT X12S PRO OMNI (2 reviewers), Dreame L60 Ultra PE (one reviewer) and eufy Omni S2 (4 reviewers), 9 out of 10.
    • Pet hair: ILIFE A30 Pro (one reviewer), DEEBOT T90 PRO OMNI (one reviewer), Dreame L60 Ultra PE (one reviewer) and Dreame X60 Max (one reviewer), 10 out of 10.
    • Along walls: Tapo RV30 Max (one reviewer), 10 out of 10.
    • Navigation: Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 (5 reviewers), Roborock Qrevo 2 Pro (one reviewer), DEEBOT T90S PRO OMNI (one reviewer) and Narwal Freo 20 (2 reviewers), 9 out of 10.
    • Obstacles: MOVA P70 Pro Ultra (2 reviewers) and MOVA MOBIUS 60 (3 reviewers), 9 out of 10.
    • Mopping: Narwal Freo 20 Edge (3 reviewers) and DEEBOT X12S PRO OMNI (2 reviewers), 9 out of 10.

A lead resting on one reviewer is weaker than one resting on three. Race your shortlist in the simulator above, in the home closest to yours.

    Questions

Is this a real test of the robot?

No. It is an illustration, not a measurement. Floor reached, dust, hair and stains are separate simulated outcomes from simplified rules. Reviewer scores decide the pickup, and maker specs decide what it can enter. A missing spec is unverified, not a confirmed limit.

Where do the scores come from?

From reviewers who tested each robot themselves, such as RTINGS, Vacuum Wars, TechRadar and Tom's Guide. Each reviewer's result becomes a number from 1 to 10, a lab's measured result counted against that lab's own average, and Nameryn's score is their rounded average. Each robot's profile under Find your robot names every reviewer and its date.

What if no reviewer tested something?

It counts as an average robot, 5.5 out of 10, and the result names it under the table, so those rows are less certain.

Why does the same robot do the same thing every time?

The mess layout number fixes where the socks, cords and stains go and every choice the robot makes, so two people with the same number see the same run. Change the number for a new layout.
